Why we do the Walk >
The Dave Owens and Frank Goodall Memorial Fund sponsored walk is an annual challenge walk to raise funds for our nominated charities in support of cancer research, prevention, and treatment.
The sponsored walk was originated by Gerard Mitchell who decided to raise funds to support cancer charities following the death of two of his close friends.

Our Recent Challenge Walk
Our most recent challenge event proved to be another fundraising success, and the funds raised add to our ever growing sum which we have donated to our nominated charities.
2021 Walk Page: For those of you who like to keep up with our most recent news, and see how the day unfolded on the Dave Owens and Frank Goodall Memorial Fund Chatsworth Challenge Walk, you can go to our walk page where you can see an account of our individual walkers, their dogs, children and all!

We’d like to thank our walkers and corporate sponsors, and everyone who took part in this event, and also to all those who sponsored our walkers or who contributed in any way.
The Walks: The format of the day will be the same as in previous years, which we have developed and refined to provide an enjoyable day out for keen walkers and also families
There are two walks to ensure that all walkers will have start times and distances to meet their personal requirements
The 22 Mile Walk is for our fit and healthy endurance walkers, and will leave Baslow village green at 06-00 hrs.
The 9 Mile Walk is a less demanding route and is perfect for those who feel that a 22 mile walk is a little too long. It is ideal for families who wish to bring along young children who are capable of walking this shorter distance. The start time for the 9 Mile walk is 11.15 hrs and leaves from the same starting point in Baslow village green.
Please register as soon as possible so that your details can be entered into our walk schedule, and remember to include your email address so that you can be notified of any updates concerning our popular annual two distance walk. See our NEXT Challenge Walk

All our sponsor money is collected via the Dave Owens & Frank Goodall Memorial Fund.
With the exception of the £5-00 entry fees which are used to cover operating costs for the event, ALL of the sponsorship money we receive goes directly to the nominated charities we support and is distributed to them in the following ratios :-
Cancer Research UK - 30%
Macmillan Cancer Support - 30%
Marie Curie Cancer Care - 30%
Oesophageal Patients Association 10%
Any residual funds are subsequently donated to the charities. We do not make any profit from our sponsored walks whatsoever
Funds raised from our sponsored walks are needed to sustain the level of support we continue to give to our recipient charities. As ever, we’re always trying to increase the numbers, so please try to get your family and friends to join us in Chatsworth to take part in our walk.
It is open to anyone who wishes to walk with us and have a great day out. The only condition we make is that you must be sponsored, and the funds you raise must come direct to our own charities fund account. We do this absolutely free.
It’s a great fun day out, and most our walkers return year after year. We need your sponsorship, so please try to be there with us. For more details go to our information page.

Details About The Walk:
Route maps and Route Guides: These can be obtained from our Downloads Page and all walkers are advised to get these prior to the walk.
Certificate of Completion: A certificate will be issued to all registered walkers at the check-out desk at the finishing line. Occasionally you may also received a small souvenir of your participation in the event.
Entry Fee: To cover the operational costs there is an entry fee of £5-00 for everyone who is sixteen or over on the day of the walk (under sixteens go free of charge).
Eligibility: The walk is an open event, NOT a club event, and therefore anyone who would like to take part can register to do so. Please feel free to notify anyone who you think may also be interested. Friends may be invited to accompany a sponsored walker for the day, and we welcome their participation in the event, but we do ask however that the friend pays their £5-00 entry fee. This qualifies them to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the walk.
Families and dogs: Our aim is to cultivate a real family day atmosphere without detracting from the fact that we are there to raise money to continue the fight against cancer. Families are welcome, although children under 7 may struggle. Dogs are welcome also. but due to the vast amount of sheep in the area, they must be kept on a lead.
How to apply: The Walk Application Form is available HERE. It is our usual form which provides an introduction to the walk, provides all information about the day, and contains the entry form to take part. Please don't forget the £5-00 entry fee with your application.
And lastly... A good turnout of walkers always makes for a better day, and we know that you will enjoy your day walking in the beautiful peak district area of Chatsworth.
Are you ready?: Our next ‘twinned’ challenge walk is already planned, and we look forward to seeing you there!
